Climate Work Group: George Vlasits reported on the Climate Work Group. The Climate Work Group pertains to the academic climate and atmosphere within the school. So far the work group has met 3 times. The work group has been drafting recommendations to the late/tardy policy. Significant changes have been suggested. The id policy is also being revisited/reviewed. Suggestions have come from the head of the academies to have no color-coding of ids next year. Both the id policy and the late/tardy policy are haphazard in their application. Detentions are not being served. Teachers do not buy into the locking of doors. Much of the conflict revolves around the changes occurring mid-year. Revisions to these policies need to be completed by June in order to be incorporated into the student/parent handbooks for next year. The meetings are every other Tuesday at 3 pm. Anyone interested in joining/attending this work group should contact George at George_M_Vlasits @mcps.org
Treasurer: The incorporation papers have been filed. Nancy presented an amended budget which will be presented to the membership at the next meeting. The amendments include $1000 to each academy, including the 9 th grade academy for planning materials – regardless of size. Nancy also presented the amendments to the by-laws. The amendments were approved by the executive board and will be presented for a full vote by the membership next meeting. One of the changes is that the executive board is known as the Board of Directors according to the new by-laws format.
June Meeting: The June meeting will be moved to Wednesday June 6. The Board of Directors meeting will occur at 7 pm, followed by the membership meeting at 7:30 pm.
Pedestrian Safety: A new sign has been installed on Colesville Road indicating where to turn for Blair. The new drop off will begin immediately following Spring break.
Athletic Boosters: A Sports program is being arranged to include information from colleges concerning recruiting and scholarships from the different school divisions. Look for details soon. The Athletic Boosters is also working on creating a handbook for student athletes and their parents.
Latino Outreach: Herenia has received an award from MCPS. Congratulations!
Choral Boosters: Choral Boosters is in need of a parent liaison.
Nominating Committee: A nominating committee has been formed and they are seeking PTSA officers. Please contact Deborah Stoll if you are interested in serving next year in one of the vacant offices, including Co-President/1 st Vice President.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:35 pm.
