Dave called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
All members are reminded to CLEARLY print their name on the sign-in sheet for each meeting.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. All present were reminded that this was a VERY brief meeting because the meet and greet with new principal Mr. Williams would be commencing at 7:30 pm.
The minutes for the June membership meeting were not available for review but will be sent out for revisions prior to the August BoD meeting.
Treasurer’s Report: The Nancy reports that we have spent down $8000 of the savings account to meet all expenditures for the last school year. All line items requesting money have been paid. The new budget will be brought to the board of director’s meetings this summer to determine funding priorities. A new audit committee is needed to audit last year’s books. The audit needs to occur soon after the school year commences. The By-laws are approved through April 17, 2010. The articles of incorporation were submitted to the state. When they are approved, the PTSA will need to register as a charity with the state of Maryland. Nancy will provide information to Carol Muskin so that she can create a board showing where the PTSA money went for display at BTSN. The minigrants documentation will be provided by Ms Franklin. Last year the PTSA provided $10,000 in minigrants and $1000 to each academy. Nancy reminded everyone that MCCPTA money management is not just the treasurer’s responsibility.
Roseanne Hurwitz provided an update on the Churchill Independent Activity Fund issues outlined by the Gazette and the Washington Post. She has requested a copy of the MBHS audit to review, which should be for public record.
President’s Report: Dave requested that the PTSA use some of its capital fund to purchase vinyl, outdoor quality banners as another means for communicating BTSN and PTSA information to the school population. These are considered a capital investment. $500 was approved by the BoD and it will be brought to a full membership vote in September.
The PTSA has inquired about having two telephone lines with answering machines installed in the front office for English and Spanish announcements so that parents can call in about school closing and other important information. Mr. Funk is checking on this possibility.
All PTSA chairpersons and contact should review the information posted by Barry on the list serve to make sure that their contact information is correct.
The PTSA is investigating providing refrigerator magnets with all MBHS phone numbers on them for parents at BTSN. This may be provided as a service rather than as a purchase item.
The meeting was quickly adjourned at 7:30 pm to introduce Heath Morrison, so that he could introduce the new principal to those present.
