Minutes of PTSA Meeting --- March 21, 2006

Executive Committee Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Fran Rothstein at 7:00 p.m.

It was moved by Sam Stokes to accept the minutes as they appear on the
listserv and seconded by Ray Scanell.  It passed unanimously.

Treasurer Report, Soni Malinoff

There were no checks made out and no deposits since the last meeting.  There
is $33,590 in checking and savings.

Nominating Committee

Ron McClain is in charge of the nominating committee.  We are in immediate
need of an NAACP rep and a co-chair for Latino Family Outreach.  Membership
is also in need of a co-chair now and in the future.  Please contact Ron if
you are interested in a position for next year or if you know of someone you
would like to recommend.

Conquistos Sun Suenos

Rosa Sanchez, Nancy Newton and Stacey Gurian-Sherman are working on this
program together.  The program works with Latino parents and guardians to
educate them on how to help their children achieve.

Transportation Committee  Sam Stokes

Sam met with the Business officer to come up with drop off ideas.  Since
cones have been instituted on the Colesville side, drop off has become more
safe.  It is economical and affective.  The University side continues to be
a problem as parents drop students off in a dangerous way. At first, the
thought was that the whole area would have to be reworked with major
structural changes.  The new drop off procedure on University Boulevard
would involve entering at the turn nearest the Fire Department, staying
straight and making a large u-turn into the bus lane but dropping off near
the parked cars.  It is brilliant in its simplicity.  This will be done on a
trial basis soon.

Mr. Gainous, principal's report

Mr. Gainous met with Parks and Planning about the artificial turf for the
football field.  Blair is at the top of the list for the artificial turf for
the soccer and football fields.  The Athletic Boosters are involved with the
project and support the artificial turf.

Events

After Prom--Will Ramsey  Mardi Gra Magic is the theme.  The committee will
need 50 parents to set up during the day and 100-120 to be there during the
event from 1:00 a.m to 5:00 a.m.  In 2004 1100 students attended and last
year there were 800.  The After Prom is a safe place for students to be,
avoiding drinking and driving.  It has saved lives.  Please consider
volunteering.

Silent Auction--Betsy Scroggs
The Silent Auction is April 28th in conjunction with Blair Fair.  It starts
at 6:00 and is a wonderful evening of getting to know the different clubs as
well as food and the Silent Auction.  The committee is looking for donations
of food such as meals and specialties to be auctioned off.  Also if your
place of employment or a business you frequent would contribute something to
the auction, it would be welcome and appreciated.

Please support the renovation of the Old Blair Auditorium by sending letters
to Van Hollen, Wynne and Sarbanes.  The auditorium can be used by the
community as well as being a venue for the performing arts.  Please visit
the Old Blair website at www.oldblairauditoriumproject.org for more details.
It is a very user friendly site.

Next PTSA Executive Board Meeting which is open to everyone is April 3rd in
the Media Center at 7:30.

April 18 General PTSA meeting in the media center at 7:30.
