LEARN ABOUT BLAIR’S ACADEMIES: There are five Academies at Montgomery Blair:  Entrepreneurship, Human Service Professions, International Studies, Media Literacy, and Science, Mathematics, and Technology. Learn more about the academies online at: http://academies.mbhs.edu/. Note that the 9th grade, as a whole, is also considered to be an academy.

PROOF OF RESIDENCY:  9th grade students must provide proof of residency in Montgomery County.

BLAIR ID’S:  Students must wear IDs! The ID policy will be in the Parent’s Handbook and Planner. Photos will be taken at the start of school.

HELP YOUR CHILD GET ORGANIZED:  Put manila folders in a box and as soon as you know your student's subjects, put the name of each subject on a folder.  As binders get too full, have your student take out and file the materials they don’t need in the manila folders. 
 
COMMUNICATION: Go to Back-to-School Night and get your child’s teacher’s emails. Sign up for the Blair Yahoo Discussion Group, and Edline. Read Silver Chips, Silver Chips Online and the Blazer PTSA Newsletter. Come to PTSA meetings, principal coffees, sports, plays, etc. Keep that Parent Handbook handy! Check backpacks for flyers and other information. Don’t be afraid to look! Lost plan books are $5.00 to replace.

Learn the name of your child’s counselor. Don’t be afraid to ask questions! The MCPS website – http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/ is also a great source of information, including lunch menus and information in many languages. Translators are available during meetings as possible with FM wireless equipment. Blair also communicates using an automated phone messaging system (“EdConnect” – or “Robodial”) and the digital sign at Colesville and University Blvd. The best way to communicate is to ask your child what is going on.

SPORTS , BEBOPS, CHORUS – There are support groups for sports, music, chorus and theater programs at Blair.

UNOS CONSEJOS PARA ESTUDIANTES ENTRANTES DEL 9o  Y SUS familias:

HAGA-SE SOCIO DEL PTSA: Le damos la bienvenida a Blair y le invitamos a reunirse con nosotros para abogar por nuestra escuela.  La Asociación de Padres, Maestros y Estudiantes (PTSA en Inglés) ayuda a la escuela en varias formas y se necesita su asistencia con varios proyectos.  También le pedimos ayuda a los padres de los estudiantes de los programas de CAP y Magnet; ¡todos trabajamos para los estudiantes de Blair! Le agradeceríamos su servicio como  VOLUNTARIO de la PTSA de Blair. ¡Se necesita urgentemente la participación de nuestros padres hispanohablantes! PRUEBA DE RESIDENCIA: Por varios años, el sistema escolar ha exigido entregar prueba de residencia del condado de Montgomery. Este proceso empieza en la escuela intermedia. Ejemplos de los documentos que se requiere: una copia del contracto de arrendamiento actual (si usted alquila), facturas (de teléfono – no celular, de electricidad, agua, etc.) que le han llegado a su dirección actual. Para más información puede llamar: 301-649-8081; se habla español.

CENTRO DE LLAMADAS DE MCPS: (301) 309-MCPS (6227), de lunes a viernes, 8:30am-5:30pm le podrán contestar sus preguntas en español. El centro de llamadas le provee información precisa sobre temas generales como: las operaciones de escuela, programas, matriculación, exámenes e informes, y otra información sobre el sistema académico.  Le contestaran preguntas como: ¿Cómo matriculo mi niño en la escuela?, ¿Cuándo empieza la escuela? y ¿Cuándo recibiré las  calificaciones de mi hijo/a?

ENTERESE SOBRE LAS ACADEMIAS DE BLAIR: Existen cinco academias en Blair: la Academia de Empresarios; de Profesiones de Servicio Humano; de Estudios Internacionales; de Medios de Comunicación; y de Ciencias, Matemáticas y Tecnología.  Son comunidades de estudiantes y profesores que se unen por sus intereses y metas de carreras comunes.  Encuentre más información sobre las academias al sitio de web: http://academies.mbhs.edu

MANUAL PARA PADRES: El manual para padres (Parent Handbook) es un recurso central de información sobre Blair.  Si no recibe una copia por correo, por favor pida una copia en la oficina.  Léalo y guárdalo bien – será un recurso importante que necesitará durante todo el año escolar.

COMUNICACIÓN: Obtenga los nombres y números de contacto para los profesores de su hijo/a durante “Back to School Night” (la Noche de Regreso a Escuela). Su hijo/a tendrá una agenda académica (Plan Book) – no deje de leerlo y rebuscar la mochila de su hijo/a para otra información. Lea Silver Chips (el periódico escolar), Silver Chips Online (el periódico escolar por medio del Internet), Silver Chips Internacional y el boletín de PTSA, Blazer.  Venga a las reuniones de PTSA, a los cafés con el director, a los eventos de deportes, y las obras de teatros, etc. 

“Edline”: Edline es un modo de vigilar el progreso académico de su hijo/a. Los estudiantes usan este programa por medio del Internet para ver sus asignaciones y tareas actuales, comunicarse con sus maestros por correo electrónico, y mantenerse al tanto con los eventos escolares. Los padres se pueden registrar para obtener acceso a la cuenta de sus hijo/a. Para activar su cuenta, envíe un correo electrónico a edlinehelp@mbhs.edu.

Ayuda después de escuela: Su hijo/a puede registrarse para la Academia de Deportes en Blair (Blair Sports Academy) que combina deportes y apoyo académica.  Para más información en español, llame a José Segura: 240-777-6916.
