MBHS PTSA - After Prom Committee

After Prom is Coming to Blair!

Prom: Saturday May 19, 8:00 PM - 12:00 Midnight
University of Maryland, Marriott Hotel

After Prom: Sunday May 20, 12:00 Midnight - 4:00 AM
Blair; enter via Colesville Road

Doors close at 1:30 AM

Free for all Juniors and Seniors

What is After Prom?
Each year after the Junior-Senior Prom, the Blair community sponsors an After Prom celebration for Blair Seniors and Juniors.  All senior and junior students at Blair are invited, including those who do not attend the Prom.

Why do we host an After Prom celebration?
Prom night is widely known as "the" night when even good kids give themselves permission to try something risky.  This event aims to keep our students safe by giving them something safe and fun to do.  After Proms save lives.

Unlike the Prom, the event is free to students and guests, which increases the attendance and overall success of the event.  Last year's After Prom hosted more than 700 students!  We have a wonderful legacy of hosting a fabulous, very successful After Prom.

How you can help:

Volunteer: We need over one hundred volunteers to help with the event and to clean up in the early morning.  Those who have worked at After Prom have found it to be a fun and rewarding experience -really!  It's an incredibly well organized event - no wasted time or effort - and it's a great way to meet other Blair parents!  9th and 10th grade parents - here's a sneak preview of your future!  Junior and Senior parents - come and join the fun and help create a great event for your kids.  If you (or your kids) want you to be invisible - come help decorate in the morning or work behind the scenes that night.

Work on decorations and set up from 9:00am-2:00pm on Saturday, May 19.
Work on sign-in, games, food, and security from 1:00-5:00 am on Sunday, May 20.
Work on clean up from 5:00-9:00am on Sunday, May 20.

Donate Prizes: We need lots of prizes, large and small, to help make the games fun and as an inducement for the kids to stay for all of After Prom.  Does your business or organization offer gift cards, or goods, or services that would appeal to students?  We could use anything from t-shirts to tickets; gift certificates for massages or manicures; stuff for dorm rooms, or any popular electronic devices.  For gift cards, please note the dollar amount on the card.

We're happy to give your organization credit in After Prom materials/publicity so that the whole Blair community will know that your organization helped make After Prom a great success!  If you have anything you'd like to contribute or can help us contact businesses for prizes, please contact Wynn Witthans at wynn.liveoak at gmail.com

Donate food and beverages: Just imagine how hungry and thirsty these teens get in 4 hours.  Start stocking up on water bottles and sports drinks on your trips to Costo now.  Contact Carol Muskin at cmuskin at gmail.com to volunteer and received specifics as to what is needed.

Support After Prom: As you may have heard, the After-Prom Fundraising Committee ran a wonderful and successful event in early March, hosting the nationally acclaimed Capitol Steps to a sold out audience in Blair auditorium, yielding close to 70 percent of funds needed to support After-Prom.  Blair's After-Prom party, which costs roughly $20.00 per student attendee, is widely considered throughout the county to be the biggest and best After Prom.  It is one of the most fun at the lowest cost per student.  And, it is of course invaluable in that we are keeping our kids safe.

We now need to raise the remaining 30 percent of funds to host After-Prom 2012.  Please consider giving a contribution to this event, especially if you were unable to come out and see the Steps.  A contribution to After-Prom is a contribution to THE party that keeps kids in a safe and happy environment during that crucial overnight, post-Prom period when all too often we wake to tragic news in the morning.
